Private label gummy manufacturing: how MOQ, lead time and cost are determined

Use this buyer guide to compare private label gummy manufacturing quotes without assuming a universal MOQ, production schedule or unit price. It shows which project inputs a manufacturer needs, how each stage affects lead time, and what changes unit economics.

Minimum order quantity

MOQ is confirmed after formula, packaging, material-readiness and volume review. Production runs carry fixed work — line cleaning, formula setup, mold configuration and QC sampling — regardless of order size. Below a certain volume, those fixed costs can make unit economics difficult.

A few things worth understanding about MOQ:

  • MOQ is usually stated in bottles, not gummies. Multiply the bottle quantity by the count per bottle to compare total gummy volume across quotes.
  • Custom molds raise the floor. A custom gummy shape requires tooling, and tooling amortises across the run. Standard shapes carry no such cost.
  • Reorder terms can differ. Ask whether the supplier can combine packaging buys, reserve raw materials or schedule repeat runs against a forecast.

Lead times

StageTypical duration
Feasibility reviewDays — before any quote is issued
Sample developmentConfirmed after brief and material-readiness review
Your evaluationYours to control — usually the longest stage in practice
Pilot validationAdded for high-load or novel formulas
ProductionConfirmed for the approved formula, packaging, materials, quantity and destination
International freightQuoted separately; route, service level, port conditions and customs all affect timing

The number most brands underestimate is their own evaluation stage. Samples arrive, and then they sit while the team debates flavour. Building a decision deadline into your own calendar before samples ship is the single easiest way to compress a launch timeline.

Freight is the other large block. Confirm the Incoterm, importer-of-record responsibility, estimated transit time and customs-document package before you compare total launch timelines.

Once two written proposals use the same product and delivery basis, enter their actual manufacturing, testing, freight, duty, receiving and acceptance assumptions in the gummy manufacturing quote and landed-cost calculator. It keeps unknown amounts visible instead of replacing them with industry averages.

The five things that actually move unit cost

1. Active load

By a wide margin the biggest driver. A gummy carrying 5 g of creatine contains vastly more raw material than one carrying 25 mcg of vitamin D3, and high-load formulas also run slower and reject more. Doubling your dose does not double your cost, but it moves it more than any other single decision.

2. Which form of the active

Magnesium glycinate costs considerably more per milligram of elemental magnesium than magnesium oxide, and occupies more mass. Choosing glycinate for a cleaner taste profile is a legitimate decision — but it is a cost decision as much as a formulation one, and it should be made deliberately.

3. Order quantity

Fixed setup costs spread across the run. The move from a small pilot to a larger commercial run can materially change unit economics, but the actual breakpoints depend on the formula, packaging and production plan.

4. Packaging

Frequently underestimated. Bottle type, closure, label stock, shrink band, carton and insert all add up, and for lower-dose products packaging can approach the cost of what goes inside it. Opaque containers — which we recommend for light-sensitive actives like CoQ10 — cost more than clear PET.

5. Certifications and testing scope

Organic, Halal, Kosher and Non-GMO certification each add cost and often restrict ingredient sourcing. Testing scope is similar: a basic potency panel is inexpensive, while a full heavy metals, microbiological and stability program across multiple timepoints is not. Neither is optional if your channel requires it — but both should be scoped deliberately rather than discovered late.

Why manufacturers hesitate to quote immediately

A quote given before feasibility review is a guess, and guesses in this category tend to be optimistic. The specification that determines your price — active load, form, piece weight, count, packaging, testing — is exactly the specification that determines whether the product can be manufactured consistently at all.

An immediate quote against an incomplete brief is a mild warning sign. It usually means either the number will move later, or that feasibility is being treated as your problem rather than the manufacturer's.

What to have ready before you make contact

You will get a faster and more accurate response if you can state:

  • Target active and dose per serving
  • Preferred serving size — how many gummies a consumer takes
  • Sugar system: sugared, sugar-free, or reduced sugar
  • Base preference: pectin (vegetarian) or gelatin
  • Packaging format and count per container
  • First order quantity and target launch date
  • Any certification your sales channel requires

If some of those are still open, say so — an experienced manufacturer will have opinions, and the conversation is more useful than a quote against assumptions nobody stated.

For a project-specific MOQ and timeline, send the formula direction, packaging, material status, quantity and destination through the project inquiry page.

Frequently asked

What is Sucotond USA's MOQ for private label gummies?

MOQ is confirmed in writing after formula, packaging, material-readiness and volume review. Confirm whether any supplier quote is stated in bottles or individual gummies before comparing it.

How long does private label gummy production take?

Development and production timing are confirmed after the brief, formula, packaging, materials, quantity and destination are reviewed. Freight and customs time are additional.

What drives the cost of a private label gummy?

Active load is often a major driver, together with the form of the active, order quantity, packaging specification, certifications and testing scope.

Talk to Manufacturing

Have a gummy project you're scoping?

Send the non-confidential formula direction, package components, destination, volume scenario and required launch date. The Brooklyn office will identify which assumptions must be resolved before MOQ, development schedule or production timing can be quoted.
